More than 150 runners and walkers participated in the 2010 Moms’ Run Saturday on Daniel Island to benefit the Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation for Postpartum Depression Awareness. The 5k run/walk was held at Blackbaud Stadium. The Female Overall winner was Marion Minaudo of Charleston and Male Overall winner was Neville Miller of Mount Pleasant.

More than 150 runners and walkers registered for the 2010 Moms’ Run this past weekend. The 5k run/walk was held Saturday on Daniel Island to benefit the Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation for Postpartum Depression Awareness. The run started at Blackbaud Stadium, proceeded through the Etiwan Park neighborhood and ended back at the soccer field. The course was a certified 5k, and RMS Sports timed the race.

After catching their breath, runners and walkers enjoyed a festive finish line celebration: good food from Daniel Island Grille, live music by Frank Royster, face painting and an appearance by Cupcake the Clown.

“We wanted to create an event that appealed to serious runners and families alike, and we believe we did that,” says Race Director Angie Mizzell. This was the seventh year the Ruth Rhoden Craven foundation has held a 5k. “A new name, new location and great weather may have helped draw the biggest crowd we’ve had yet.”

Awards were presented to the top finishers. The Female Overall winner was Marion Minaudo of Charleston and Male Overall winner was Neville Miller of Mount Pleasant. Complete race results can be found at momsrun.blogspot.com.

"Most importantly, the event raised money and awareness for postpartum depression support here in Charleston. “We want moms suffering from postpartum depression, as well as their families, to know they are not alone,” Mizzell says.

The Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation is dedicated to the proper screening, diagnosis and treatment of postpartum depression. The foundation offers free support groups twice a month on Daniel Island. Visit ppdsupport.org for more information.

The 2010 Moms’ Run was sponsored in part by the Center for Women, Lowcountry Parent magazine and MoM Spa.
