Sophia Vann of Summerville is spearheading her second pajama drive to benefit local charities. The 5-year-old is collecting brand-new pajamas in sizes preemie to extra large now through the end of the year to give to those in need.
“It makes me feel good to do this because I like giving stuff to people,” Sophia says. “I like to help people a lot, like my mommy does.”
Last year, Sophia donated more than 400 pajamas to nonprofits such as Ronald McDonald House and My Sister’s House, who in turn distributed them to those in need. Her mother Saritta Vann helps by driving to make deliveries, but otherwise Sophia is in charge of the entire project.
“A lot of people are touched by her idea because it comes from her,” Vann says. “Sometimes kids have wonderful ideas, and as parents we don’t listen. If we just follow through with what they say, great things can happen.”
Sophia’s goal is to collect 1,000 pajamas this year. To contribute, e-mail sophiapjproject@yahoo.com for local drop-off locations.
