Police seek help identifying suspect in robbery of Berkeley County convenience store

Police are asking for help identifying a suspect from a video taken at a Cross convenience store.

Sheriff’s deputies on Friday released video of a man who they say robbed the Cross Convenience Store on Old Highway 6 in Berkeley County.

The man entered the store on Tuesday and asked to be pointed in the direction of the bathroom, spokesman Dan Moon said.

The man stepped into the bathroom for a moment, then approached the counter to purchase a pack of gum, Moon said.

When the store’s clerk opened the cash drawer, the man sprayed a self-defense spray in the person’s face, Moon said.

The clerk slammed the cash drawer shut and ran away to call 911, Moon said.

The man grabbed the cash register and fled the scene in a gray or silver four-door sedan, Moon said.

Deputies are still searching for the man, who has not been identified.

Anyone with information should call Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office at 719-4412 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
